As most of the country is aware, the Mississippi River is flooding. As I right this the river is cresting (highest expected water level) upriver in Natchez, MS. The crest is not expected to reach Baton Rouge until May 21. The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has opened the Bonnet Carre Spillway upriver of New Orleans. There are plans to open the Morganza Spillway upriver of Baton Rouge. Opening the Morganza spillway will cause additional flooding along the Atchafalaya River basin all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.
The map graphic included with the post provides the 5/11/2011 worst-case scenario flooding prediction from the USACE... as of now Meadowood Ranch is located in a "no flood" area on the graphic. Lets hope it stays that way.
