Fruits of the Harvest

Several weeks ago I scattered some seeds in the garden. The seeds were white and red radishes and 2 kinds of lettuce left over from prior seasons - not fresh seeds for 2008. Within hours of planting, we had a very heavy rain storm. The result of my winter vegetable planting labor was 1 white radish which I consumed with my dinner this evening. The pole beans are looking more promising. They are about 4 feet tall now and surround the bean pole. Need to find time to get some squash and eggplants in before it gets too hot. And the flowers... And the replacement fruit trees...

Instead of going to class tonight, since I got home after 7:00 pm from work, we worked weaves at home:
  • Bern went first... he will weave but hitting the entrance between poles 1 and 2 is still a bit of a mystery to him. We worked several sets with leftover chicken and steak from dinner Sunday evening. I think I need to work some free shaping of the entrance seperately. For drive, Alicia is suggesting that I get flexible plastic electrical conduit to make floppy poles that are easy to drive through to encourage a straighter path for him. She trained Cody this way and thinks it worked great... Cody has broken standard poles in competition due to his drive forward. I might look into this option after we get back from Gulfport.
  • Grace worked 12 pole channel weaves open about 3" for drive and footwork. She worked toward a target plate at the end. Same steak and chicken bites for her as Bern. Next we took up several poles and worked on free shaping the first 3 poles only. She seems to be getting the idea but I haven't free shaped much with her so she is looking for direction versus trying options until she gets it correct. Towards the end of our session she seemed a bit more self directed.
No photos from the LCCOC show on Loftisphoto.com yet so I'll look again tomorrow.

Grace's new eBay purchased used varikennel has arrived at Tracey's house. Tracey has wiped it down with chlorox wipes and placed it in the motor home for this weekend. I need to round up some extra crate mats for the motor home or just pull the 2 out of the car... should wash those if we are going to be smelling them all night. Grace can sure transfer odors to hers quickly with the yeast infection. Looking forward to Gulfport... I'm now trying to dodge going to Port Arthur, TX on Friday for work before I then drive to Gulfport, MS Friday evening!
