Global Wildlife Center & Puppy Whisperer

Thursday morning we practiced some obedience and weaving. It was normal routines on obedience work but I tried Nedra's suggestion for Grace's weaving lesson. Deciding that since Nedra wanted her straining against the leash to pull through the weave poles, I put a harness on Grace. (Yes Tracey it is her tracking harness and to further confuse Grace I used her 6' walking leash - I, however, am open to alternate suggestions). We grabbed a target plate and some yummy snacks and out we went. By golly, she seems to be getting the idea of harnessed weaving toward a treated target plate so we will give the approach several more lessons to see if her weaving improves.

Next Janet, Amber, Erica and I drove to Folsom, LA to visit the Global Wildlife Center. 900 acres of free roaming hoofed animals, a few birds, and some kangaroos. We had visited several years ago when Erica was just a baby and neither niece remembered their prior visit. We had wonderful weather and enjoyed our outing. To get the animals to come close to the tour wagon, guests are encouraged to feed a pellet diet designed for hoofed zoo animals to the stock. As you can see from the photo, GWC is home to a wide variety of animals.

Last but not least, Thursday evening I started teaching puppy class for the next series of obedience classes. I have 5 furry students - all fun and energetic. Their handlers are very pleasant. I'm looking forward to this class. We worked recalls to owners and others, sits, leash manners, an agility tunnel, and then had an on-leash puppy romp. The nieces helped hold the tunnel and thoroughly enjoyed helping with class. Janet says Erica has mentioned that she might like to be a vet when she grows up.

Janet and girls packed up and left this morning. Both dogs will miss the extra attention. Bern was enjoying the extra hands to pet him. While Grace had more folks to hand her tug ring too. It was a good visit.. I hope they come back soon.
